Diessenhofen

The picturesque little town of Diessenhofen lies between Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein, on one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Europe. A boat trip on the Rhine, through a largely intact landscape, under the covered wooden bridge of Diessenhofen, along green hills with vineyards and castles is a special experience.
The small Rhine town of Diessenhofen, situated away from the big tourist streams, invites visitors to discover quiet corners and places. The little town shows itself in its original medieval structure, which is still preserved today. The main street runs under the archway of the seal tower. The aim of the authorities is to make the main road west and east of the Seal Tower a meeting place where rolling and walking road users treat each other with consideration and respect. The origins of the little town date back to the year 757 and in some places the spirit of its long history permeates, history becomes tangible and tangible. The covered wooden bridge over the Rhine was built in 1814 and is the lifeline between the villages of Gailingen and Diessenhofen. The superstructure of the bridge was renovated in 1996 and 1997, the renovation of the yoke piles was completed in 2002. The former Dominican convent of St. Katharinental is located a quarter of an hour's drive towards Paradise, directly on the Rhine. It is within walking distance on an idyllic footpath, easy to reach. Although the exterior does not suggest it, the interior of the convent church can be considered one of the most beautiful late baroque room creations in Switzerland. Today the monastery complex serves as a cantonal rehabilitation clinic as well as a retirement and nursing home. Unterhof Castle is located directly at the landing stage of the shipping company Untersee und Rhein. The beautifully situated garden restaurant is situated directly on the Rhine under shady trees and invites cyclists, hikers and ship tourists to stay. Further restaurants, pubs offer excellent cuisine in an appealing ambience. The permanent art exhibition in the upper office building shows the great and comprehensive work of the Swiss painter and mosaicist Carl Roesch.
